We also tapped two of the top size-inclusive stylists to share their thoughts on the state of size-inclusive shopping, and to tip us off on the size-inclusive brands they love.

The State of Size-Inclusive Fashion
While experts agree that size-inclusive fashion has made strides in recent years—and you'll see evidence of that, below—they acknowledge that there's still work to be done.
"Plus-size options in the apparel space still have a long way to go. While there has been progress and I am hopeful for the future, there have also been many setbacks," says Heensie Low, a size-inclusive personal stylist who's based in Toronto, but works with clients worldwide. "Many larger brands have backpedalled on their commitment to size inclusion, while many smaller ones have experienced [financial] loss and closures over the last couple of years. Fast-fashion and haul culture has been deeply detrimental to our cause, because it truly is these smaller, indie brands who tend to be the trailblazers for size inclusivity," she notes.
That said, "It is certainly easier to shop [for size-inclusive clothing] than it was a decade ago," she says. "When you look at the bigger picture, we have seen improvements. But it is slow-moving—much slower than I would prefer and than I think is necessary. Blatantly, these larger brands have the resources and funding to support the plus-size population, but it has been made clear that this is not a true priority to them—though many reap the benefits of so-called inclusive marketing."
"In the ever-evolving narrative of sizing inclusivity, there's indeed a duality to our progress," notes Michaela Leitz, a luxury stylist and host of The Plus-Size Experience, who works in Frankfurt and worldwide. "The zeitgeist has shifted, powered by the vocal demands on social media. Brands, initially quick to claim inclusivity, have widened their sizing to various degrees—some symbolically, some substantively. Yet, this inclusivity has at times been only on the surface."
She continues: "Models on the cusp of traditional sizing—around US10 and US12—have been labeled 'plus-size,' which distorts the term and throw-off the self-image of many genuine plus-size consumers who do not see their realities reflected in these representations." She adds: "Amidst this landscape, there are leaders like Savage x Fenty by Rihanna, whose commitment to inclusivity remains unwavering."
"Despite fashion's cyclical nature—currently echoing the slender silhouettes of the 2000s—and the economic pressures that have led some brands to retract size expansions, it's essential to commend smaller, trailblazing brands. Although some have surrendered to market forces, their pioneering spirit continues to push the industry forward."
She concludes: "While there is indeed a broader spectrum of brands offering extended sizing compared to two decades ago, the full in-store experience still largely excludes plus-size shoppers.
Yes, the digital marketplace thrives with options, but the essence of shopping transcends transactions—it's about the delight of discovery, the joy of trying on clothes, and the shared experience with friends. It's this holistic experience that we must strive for—a world where inclusivity knows no bounds, online or off."
The New Champions of Size-Inclusive Fashion
Along with Low and Leitz, there are several fashion activists who champion the advancement of size-inclusive brands. Though "it can be very demoralizing, there are many creators and activists online who work hard to impact change," Low emphasizes. "A few of my favorites includeSamyra,Hannah Ogilvie,Val,Gabrielle Lisa Collard, and Malia Indigo, who actually spearheads the Toronto Plus Size Fashion Show."
This just represents a sampling of determined change-makers, she's quick to add. "There are so many folks in this very strong online community," Low asserts. "Whether they're actively advocating for size inclusion or simply sharing an outfit, I genuinely consider anyone in the plus-size space who engages online to be an important part of this movement. Size-inclusion is also at the crux of my work. I serve clients of all sizes, but my bread and butter is plus-size styling and I am adamant about only working with brands that prioritize diversity in their offerings. I consciously avoid sourcing from brands that do not demonstrate a commitment to size diversity."
Michaela Leitz, a luxury stylist and host of The Plus-Size Experience, who works in Frankfurt and worldwide, says: "The [size-inclusive] movement is far from monolithic; it's propelled by a formation of passionate voices, each amplifying the message in their own unique way. One such voice is the profoundly authentic Leah V (Leah Vernon)."
"She has been fearlessly transparent about the fashion industry's tendency to commodify plus-size individuals as tokens of diversity—only to cast them aside when their narratives no longer align with the prevailing market trends."
She adds: "Equally impactful is Caroline Adegun, known as The Hollywood Wingwoman. She's a beacon of proactive transformation, ensuring that plus-size talents are not only seen but valued and compensated equitably.
Her advocacy extends beyond mere representation; it's about strengthening the very foundations upon which our industry stands, making sure inclusivity isn't just a fleeting trend but an entrenched norm."
