Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders: Unbelievable Age Group Swimming Performances (2025)

Finola Whelehan, 14, TAC Titans (NC): Finola absolutely crushed it at the TAC Titans Big Southern Classic! She achieved personal bests in all eight of her races, rocketing into the top 75 all-time in the girls' 13-14 age group in five of them. Her standout performance was in the 200 free, where she clocked an amazing 1:45.87. This time not only ranks her 7th all-time in her age group but also puts her in the 1st spot this season! Think about that – she improved from 1:49.50 to 1:45.87! She also made waves in the 100 back (53.19), the 400 IM (4:15.70), the 100 fly (54.15), and the 200 back (1:57.62), securing either 1st or 2nd place in the age group this season. And let's not forget her impressive times in the 100 free (50.26), 200 fly (2:01.12), and 200 IM (2:02.14), ranking 2nd, 2nd, and 5th, respectively, this season.

Tommy Jiang, 14, DART Swimming (SN): Tommy powered his way into the top 100 all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group in three events at the Folsom Classic in California. He dominated the 200 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly, taking home the gold in each. His 100 fly time of 49.74 puts him at 56th all-time. He also secured spots at 67th all-time in the 200 fly (1:51.17) and 81st in the 200 free (1:40.75). What's more, he's ranked 1st among 13-14 boys in all three of these events this season.

Katherine McCrea, 12, Aquazot Swim Club (CA): Katherine achieved three personal bests at the RMDA Legends of Coaching meet. Two of these performances have placed her at the top of the girls’ 11-12 rankings this season. The Aquazot Swim Club star shone with times of 24.65 in the 50 free and 52.73 in the 100 free, both earning her the 1st spot this season among 11-12 girls. She also posted a time of 58.78 in the 100 fly, securing the 6th spot in the country this season. Her relay splits in the 50 free were also impressive, with times of 24.20 and 24.22.

Kyle Weng, 12, Brea Aquatics (CA): Also competing at the RMDA Legends of Coaching meet, Kyle set some impressive best times in the butterfly events. He clocked 53.08 in the 100 fly, improving from his previous best of 53.92 and ranking 9th all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group and 2nd this season. He also swam the 200 fly in 2:00.65, shaving two seconds off his previous best of 2:02.64, and earning him the 27th all-time spot in the age group and 1st this season.

Olivia Covey, 9, Bellevue Club Swim Team (PN): Olivia set personal bests in every race at the THSC November Open. Despite being only nine years old, she's already making waves, cracking the top 10 in the girls' 10 & under age group in three races. She swam the 200 free in 2:09.44, ranking 7th among 10 & under girls this season. She also ranks 9th in both the 100 free (59.73) and 100 fly (1:07.21), and is ranked 1st among nine-year-olds this season in all three events. She also impressively moved to 11th this season in the 50 fly (29.91), 17th in the 200 IM (2:29.85), and 19th in the 500 free (5:53.74) among 10 & under girls, and is ranked 2nd among nine-year-olds in all three of these events.
